Anthony MacDonald put Jailbird Jog in a great spot, and the daughter of Tactical Landing made an explosive move at the three-quarters to gain control and draw away in the inaugural $300,000 Oak Grove Trotting Oaks on Saturday afternoon at Oak Grove Racing & Gaming. With nine in the field the action was hot and heavy at the outset, but MacDonald chose to take off the gate with his filly as Carve and Andrew McCarthy blasted to the front, clearing quickly and forcing Degas and Yannick Gingras into the pocket. Meanwhile, Dexter Dunn moved Setyoursightshigh out alertly from post eight and needed a full quarter trotted in 26 2/5 just to clear to the front. Driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. kept Victorianas Secret out through the opening quarter and blitzed to the lead three-eighths into the race keeping up a lively pace that would get the field to the half in 54 3/5. MacDonald had edged out off the opening bend and caught the cover of Little Road in the process. That locked in the favorite Naked And Famous, who broke stride shortly thereafter. Not wasting time Jailbird Jog bruised around the dull cover entering the second turn and made a quick move on the leader, only to check briefly when Carve and McCarthy bulled out just past the half. Carve battled gamely and appeared ready to go by the leader at three quarters in 1:23 but couldn't clear and would eventually break stride. Jailbird Jog had no such issues, though, as she went by both the off-stride Carve and Victorianas Secret. After she hit the front, Jailbird Jog was already separated from the field entering the stretch, and the battle was for second with Victorianas Secret holding firmly to keep Chiquita Be-Beeman at bay. Custom, the 5-2 second choice in the field, came on for fourth following an early miscue. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Jailbird Jog was a winner for the second time in three starts this year, trotting the mile in 1:52 2/5 that equaled her fastest career triumph taken as a 2-year-old.
