NYRA reports increase in all-sources handle for Aqueduct winter meet

All-sources handle for the 2021-22 Aqueduct winter meet was $358,836,940, a 2.5 percent increase over the 2020-21 meet, the New York Racing Association announced Friday.
There were 50 cards and 438 races run at the 2021-22 winter meet, which ran from Dec. 9, 2021 to March 27. A total of 56 cards had been scheduled, but six were lost due to bad weather. In 2020-21, there were 466 races run over 52 cards. Average field size for the ‘21-22 meet was 7.48 horses per race, compared to 7.42 in ‘20-21.

Ontrack handle, which includes wagering from New York residents utilizing the NYRA Bets advance deposit wagering platform, was $35,667,627, a 43.3 percent increase over the 2020-21 meet, which was held without ontrack spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Average daily handle for the ‘21-22 winter meet was $7,176,739, a 10.7 percent increase over 2020-21. Since 2018-2019, average daily handle at the Aqueduct winter meet has risen 28.3 percent, according to NYRA.
Thursday started the 15-day Aqueduct spring meet, which runs through April 24. Racing on this circuit moves to Belmont Park beginning April 28.
