NYRA adjusts times for three races on Cigar Mile Day

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The New York Racing Association announced it has adjusted the fractions and final times for three of the races run on the Dec. 1 card, the day of the Cigar Mile.
There were three one-turn mile races run before the Cigar Mile. The timing of those three races was hampered by the existence of an auxiliary gate set along the outside rail that blocked the timing mechanism from starting at the mile pole. Those races were timed from the moment the gate opened as opposed from the actual mile pole, thus the times for those races came up significantly slow, especially compared with the Cigar Mile, which was timed without interference from the rail.
The fractions and final times now recorded from those three races come after being hand-timed by the Aqueduct track clocker.
One of the races affected was the Grade 3 Go for Wand Handicap, won by Marley’s Freedom. The new fractions and final time will read (with previously recorded times in parenthesis): 24.52 (25.27), 48.14 (48.56), 1:12.14 (1:13.34), and 1:37.50 (1:38.35).
Earlier on the card, race 2, a maiden special weight for 2-year-olds won by Kentucky Wildcat, now has fractions of 24.68 (25.85), 49.14 (49.82), 1:14.01 (1:15.30), with a final time of 1:40.17 (1:41.41).
Race 3, a $25,000 claiming event won by Stronger, is now changed to 25.13 (26.08), 49.78 (50.55), 1:15.37 (1:16.62), with a final time of 1:41.77 (1:42.92).
Patternrecognition won the Cigar Mile in fractions that were recorded as 22.88, 45.68, 1:09.68, and a final time of 1:34.98.
