Nyquist to remain at San Luis Rey Downs until Pennsylvania Derby

DEL MAR, Calif. – Nyquist, the Kentucky Derby winner and champion 2-year-old male of 2015, is likely to remain at the San Luis Rey Downs training center until running in the Grade 2, $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx on Sept. 24, according to trainer Doug O’Neill.
Nyquist went to San Luis Rey Downs three weeks ago when O’Neill said he was going through a growth spurt. Nyquist used a swimming pool to stay fit and had his first work since the Haskell last Saturday.
“He’s doing well there,” O’Neill said. “His weight is great. It’s a great facility.”
O’Neill said the plan is to work Nyquist the next three Saturdays at San Luis Rey Downs before he leaves for the Pennsylvania Derby.
◗ Lord Nelson, the winner of the Grade 1 Bing Crosby on July 31, worked a half-mile in 47.80 seconds on Monday. He is pointing to the Santa Anita Sprint Championship on Oct. 8.
