BENSALEM, Pa. - Notice of Action gave trainer Bobbi Anne Hawthorne her first stakes victory when the 2-year-old colt splashed through the slop at Parx Racing on Saturday in the $150,000 Prince Lucky for statebreds at 6 1/2 furlongs. Hawthorne operates a 15-horse stable here, and Notice of Action was the lone yearling she purchased in 2022, for $15,000 at Timonium on behalf of husband A.J. Hawthorne. "I like the way he walked," Hawthrone said in the winner's circle. She loves the way Notice of Action runs. The Hoppertunity colt won his career debut, a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight for statebreds at Parx on Aug. 21 by four lengths with a rock-solid 79 Beyer Speed Figure. :: Bet the races with a $250 First Deposit Match + $10 Free Bet and FREE Formulator PPs! Notice of Action was one of two prior winners in the Prince Lucky along with Poker Partner, and they were part of a four-ply pace scrum with Chilling Hassle and Standpoint through an opening quarter in 22.50 seconds. Poker Partner was the first to fold, and Notice of Action engaged Chilling Hassle following a half-mile clocking in 46.33. Jockey Andy Hernandez kept Notice of Action's mind on his business, and the colt withstood Lost and Confused's late challenge to score by a half-length in 1:19.48. Addyson's Dream was another 3 3/4 lengths back in third. Notice of Action paid $4 as the betting favorite. "Andy actually said he acted like he didn't handle [the mud], but he got the job done," Hawthorne said. Bred by Bryan Minnich, Notice of Action is the seventh winner produced by Be a Gem, a broodmare by Jump Start. He has earned $118,800. Hawthorne, who also gallops her horses, noted that Notice of Action is "totally laid back." That professionalism certainly helped him overcome today's testing conditions. *Imply Stakes Aoife’s Magic has come a long way for trainer David Dotolo. “When I first got her from Florida, she spooked and got loose,” Dotolo said. “She was running through the barn and slid on all four of her legs. Five weeks, we had to walk her until we healed everything up.” On Saturday, Aoife’s Magic made it 2 for 2 in her career with an authoritative 4 1/2-length victory over Noisy On the Bay in the $150,000 Imply Stakes for statebred 2-year-old fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs. There was speed on display in the Imply as One Eyed Jackie, Betsy Is the Gal, and Sirani worked hard through an opening split of 22.31. Aoife’s Magic broke well under jockey Wilfred Vasquez, but was rated back to avoid the pace duel. The rail opened on the turn and Vasquez took advantage. He guided Aoife’s Magic through an inviting opening after a half in 46.65, and the race was all but over. Despite failing to change leads, Aoife’s Magic wasn’t threatened. She completed the distance in 1:19.96 and returned $3.60 as the favorite. Lucky Opportunity finished third, a length behind the runner-up. “I was a little concerned when she was shuffled back in between horses,” Dotolo said. “But she then bulled her way through. She’s one of the smartest horses I’ve ever been around.” Bred by Mohns Hill Farm, Aoife’s Magic was purchased as a yearling for $16,000 by A & J Racing Stable. The Smarty Jones filly impressed Dotolo at the sale. “She looked bigger than a lot of them,” Dotolo said. Aoife’s Magic is out of Polarized, a mare by Drosselmeyer. The second dam, Immune to Gloom, was multiple stakes-placed on dirt. Dotolo mentioned future stakes races like the $100,000 Shamrock Rose at Penn National on Nov. 22, and the Miss Behaviour at Parx on Dec. 27 as potential destinations for Aoife’s Magic. Both are restricted to Pennsylvania-breds. *Plum Pretty Even trainer Jamie Ness was a bit surprised when One More Kelly upset favored Morning Matcha in the $100,000 Plum Pretty for Pennsylvania-bred fillies and mares at 1 mile 70 yards. “A little bit of an unexpected win,” Ness said. “I brought [Jamie Rodriguez] over and he rode her last time at Penn National. The instructions were to take a hold, and he wasn’t sure about that. Today, he said ‘I’m going.’ He rode her before and that probably got the win for me.” Rodriguez went from the inside post position, set down fractions of 23.88, 48.27, and 1:13.75 seconds, and One More Kelly still had something left in the tank when Morning Matcha challenged in midstretch. Despite drifting outwards during the drive, One More Kelly held steady to prevail by three-quarters of a length in 1:44.34 seconds. Warrior’s Ransom was another 4 3/4 lengths back in third.  One More Kelly returned $33.40 as the sixth-choice in the betting. “[The owners] sent her down here for this race, but they wanted a couple of breezes over the track, which I think is beneficial here at Parx, and they made the right move,” Ness said. “I think the racetrack helped her out today,” Ness continued. “[Stablemate Warrior’s Ransom] came back with dirt all over her face, and she was climbing. [One More Kelly] benefited from a front-running score and a sloppy track.” A homebred daughter of Not This Time owned by Warrior’s Reward LLC, One More Kelly earned her first stakes victory, and has won 5 times from 22 starts for earnings of $205,521. She had previously finished third in the Princess of Sylmar Stakes over the Tapeta surface at Presque Isle Downs. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
