Nothing Iffy about Kentucky invader

Dave Basler|Oct 03, 2001

Kentucky invader Iffy is a major threat against the locals in Friday's $50,000 Prairie Meadows Debutante for 2-year-old fillies.

Iffy ships in for this six-furlong race off back-to-back come-from-behind scores at Ellis Park for trainer Joe Cain. A daughter of Is It True, Iffy began her career in a $30,000 maiden claiming race Aug. 4 and rallied from 12 lengths back to finish second, beaten a neck. She returned less than two weeks later in a six-furlong $50,000 maiden claimer and scored by three-quarters of a length.

In her most recent start, Iffy came from last in a nine-horse field to score by a neck against allowance company at six furlongs.

Apprentice Axel Desilva, who has ridden Iffy in all three of her starts, will be in for the mount for owner-breeder Dennis Farkas.

A pair of Iowa-breds, True Tear Drops and Lady Sundari, are Iffy's main threats in the Debutante.

True Tear Drops is the only other two-time winner in the field and may go favored based on her three-length victory against state-bred fillies in the $65,000 Iowa Sorority Stakes here Sept. 1.

Larry Hunt Sr. trains and co-owns True Tear Drops, another daughter of Is It True. Cindy Noll, who has been aboard the filly in all three of her starts, returns from Hoosier Park for the mount.

Lady Sundari stumbled badly leaving the gate against males in the Iowa Stallion Futurity Stakes here Sept. 17, and managed to finish third, beaten seven lengths. That race followed an easy maiden score here in her debut Aug. 25. With a better start and the addition of Lasix, Lady Sundari is a threat Saturday for trainer Dave McShane and jockey Perry Compton.
