C My Meister and Winging It both have key variables in their favor heading into the $75,000 Proud Man on Saturday at Gulfstream Park. The 2-year-olds are part of a field of 10 entered in the one-mile turf race. C My Meister is proven going two turns on turf, while maiden Winging It owns the field’s best career Beyer Speed Figure. The horses will start among the top choices in the race alongside maiden Eldon’s Prince, a sibling to four turf winners. C My Meister enters off a maiden special weight win at about 7 1/2 furlongs on turf July 18 at Gulfstream. He drifted out in the stretch under a left-handed stick and still won by 2 1/2 lengths. The horse will add blinkers Saturday. “He got very green at the end,” trainer Kelsey Danner said. “He’s trained really well in blinkers and hopefully we’ll see him running in a straighter line. C My Meister is by Bodemeister. “He’s a big, nice-looking colt,” Danner said. “He loves to train. He never gets tired.” Miguel Vasquez has the mount from post 2. “He’ll probably be laying right off the lead, sitting like third,” Danner said. “It looks like there’s a little bit of pace to run at.” Danner is in the midst of a strong meet, winning at an 18 percent clip at Gulfstream. “The babies have all been running really good,” she said. Winging It enters off a maiden special weight over seven furlongs on July 23 at Gulfstream. He contested the pace in the off-the-turf race run on a good track, and fought on to finish second by a neck. The Beyer Speed Figure of 68 that Winging It earned is the dominant number in the field Saturday. “You can’t teach desire – either they have it or they don’t – and watching him in his first race, we’re pretty excited,” trainer Jena Antonucci said. “He’s been such a professional colt.” Antonucci is looking forward to a turf start with Winging It. His sire, Into Mischief, is getting 14 percent winners on turf, and his dam won on the grass. “There’s turf family sitting there,” Antonucci said. “And we think he goes across the grass lovely.”She also likes the move to two turns for Winging It. The colt, who drew post 9, will be ridden by Samy Camacho. “He doesn’t have any issue looking another horse in the eye and he likes to run at things, too,” Antonucci said. “We’ll let Samy do his job. With the outside post, Samy has an opportunity to watch the race unfold and make a decision that’s best for the horse at game time.”
