Northlands Park: Tracy has hold on Two Year Old Sales Stakes

Randy Goulding|Aug 11, 2011

Trainer Greg Tracy figures to have the favorites in both divisions of the Two Year Old Sales Stakes at Northlands Park Saturday. The 6 1/2-furlong sprints are restricted to horses foaled in Canada that were sold or consigned and the full commission was paid at a Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Sale.

Golden Cup is coming off a 12 1/2-length romp in a maiden special weight race going 5 1/2 furlongs, and he figure to be a short price in the colts and geldings division, which goes as the eighth race.

My Daddy’s Girl looks like the one to beat in the fillies division, which drew six horses and goes as the fourth race.

Tracy put blinkers on Golden Cup for the first time in three starts and it made a tremendous difference. He increased his Beyer Speed Figure by 42 points, and the 72 he earned is by far the best in the field. Tracy said not to count out Kingoftherockies, who was an easy six-length winner when he debuted in a maiden special weight race for Alberta-breds going 3 1/2 furlongs July 29. Both horses were ridden by Fernando Perez.

“Fernando wasn’t sure which horse to ride,” said Tracy. “Kingoftherockies always outworked Golden Cup, but he got sick and he has only had the one race. He went with Golden Cup because he has had two races going five and one-half furlongs.”

Rico Walcott picks up the mount on Kingoftherockies, who could have a compromised trip leaving from the outside post in the 10-horse field.

Trainer Diana Feureheim had Kiibrassy primed for a big effort first time out. He won his debut going 3 1/2 furlongs in a maiden special weight race June 10 and the second- and third-place finishers came right back to win their next race.

Hidden Attraction and Get M K Q are the only other winners in the field.

The odds are very high that either Tracy or trainer Joan Petrowski will win the fillies division. Tracy’s entry of My Daddy’s Girl and Inspired Dash will likely be favored, with the emphasis on My Daddy’s Girl, who owns the best Beyer Speed Figure in the field for her win in a 3 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race in her second start.

Petrowski will be represented by Shadar’s Princess, Pumpkin Hollow and Ruckus Time, who drew the three inside posts, respectively.

Spirits West, trained by Robertino Diodoro, rounds out the field.
