Northlands Park: Footprint edges clear in Westerner

Footprint paid $5.10 for his impressive win over Professor Pollard in the $50,000 Westerner for 3-year-olds and up at Northlands Park on Saturday.

Ridden by Anthony Salgado, Footprint forced honest fractions of 23.20 and 46.40 seconds while going three wide outside of Diamond Doc and Professor Pollard in the 1 1/16-mile feature. He started to edge clear after six furlongs in 1:11.60 and held a 2 1/2-length advantage over Professor Pollard heading into the stretch. He was never threatened the rest of the way while posting a final margin of two lengths. Against the Tide made a late run to finish third.

The final time was 1:44.00.

It was the 10th win for the 7-year-old Kentucky-bred gelding, and the $30,000 he earned brought his career total to $555,497. He has been trained by Joan Petrowski his entire career.
