Northlands: Footprint registers upset in Spangled Jimmy

Footprint upset the heavily favored Jim Meyaard-trained entry of Salt Flat Speed and Andiotis in the $50,000 Spangled Jimmy at Northlands on Saturday.

Breaking alertly under Anthony Salgado, Footprint sat just off Salt Flat Speed, who carved out fractions of 24.60 and 47.80 seconds in the one-mile feature. Footprint engaged Salt Flat Speed going into the stretch turn, held a narrow advantage at the top of the stretch, and drew off to win by 6 3/4 lengths. Salt Flat Speed held on to finish second by a nose over Diamond Doc. Andiotis made a late move to finish fourth.

The final time was 1:37.80. Footprint paid $11.20 to win. He is trained by Joan Petrowski.
