Miss Buxley is stepping up in class but she should appreciate the added distance when she runs in a first-level allowance race that carries a $32,000 claiming option for 3-year-old fillies at Northlands Park Sunday. The one-mile feature attracted eight horses and appears to be a wide-open event.Trained by Robertino Diodoro, Miss Buxley is stretching out to the distance at which she won the $25,000 Arizona Oaks at Turf Paradise on Feb. 26. The Oaks was Miss Buxley’s first race for Diodoro, who had claimed her for $20,000 on behalf of Rick Wiest in her previous start at Santa Anita. Miss Buxley hasn’t won since the Oaks. She tried turf for the first time in her next start, finishing third as the favorite in the $25,000 Scottsdale Handicap. Once again she was a beaten favorite when she finished fifth for $20,000 in in her first start at Northlands June 17, but she came back with a much better effort in her latest, just missing to Dakota Warrior in a $25,000 claiming sprint June 29. She could be sitting on a peak effort with Jorge Carreno retaining the mount.Caliente Roja will be stretching out for the first time since she won the one-mile Freedom of City via disqualification last October. She could be ready for a big effort after two sprints to begin her 2010 campaign and she is coming off of a third-place finish behind next-out winner Smart Roar in a second-level allowance race June 12.Dakota Warrior rallied to beat Miss Buxley by a neck for her third win in four starts this year. She finished third by a neck in her only loss at the meet.Peaknatacat is 2 for 2 at the distance. She won a $7,000 maiden race going one mile at Turf Paradise last December and a $10,000 claiming race on grass at Turf Paradise Jan. 18. In her only start at Northlands she came from off the pace to win a $20,000 claiming sprint May 28. It was her first start for trainer Robert MacDonald who had claimed her for $12,5000 at Turf Paradise February 13. Stoopendous Diva, Dashforpeace and River City Cat are all legitimate contenders.
