Northfield: The Word Is Out continues Buckeye State dominance
The Word Is Out was victorious for the fourth time in five Ohio Sires Stakes outings after taking Sunday's $100,000 contest for 2-year-old pacing fillies at MGM Northfield Park.
Driven by Chris Page, The Word Is Out showed speed from post three and worked her way around Queen Of Fear (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) past the 28 second opening quarter. The Word Is Out maintained control through the half in 57 1/5 and the three-quarters in 1:26 as Goodnight Dance (Kurt Sugg), who hadn't been able to find a seat from post eight, drove on first-over, followed by Prolific Fire (Austin Hanner), Odds On Hialeah (Brett Miller) and Skywalker Sea (Justin Irvine).
Goodnight Dance began to tire as they raced through the backstretch for the final time, and that sent Prolific Fire three-wide to get around her and take up the first-over position against The Word Is Out, while Odds On Hialeah and Skywalker Sea began three-wide and four-wide moves of their owns. However, through it all The Word Is Out still had plenty left on the front-end, and she would kick away from the closers in the stretch to win by two lengths in 1:53 4/5. Odds On Hialeah was second and Skywalker Sea got third.
