Northfield: Wednesday Analysis for $100,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool

Northfield Park is offering a $100,000 guaranteed pick five pool on Wednesday (May 29) powered by a $29,190 carryover. Starting in race 3 on the card (first post is 6:30 pm), the pick five is a must-play wager with the free money available in the pool.

Race 3

(2) SON OFA SPUR – What do you do with a horse that hasn’t won since 2011 but is probably best if he shows up with a good effort? I’m going to spread with a few horses and hope to beat him, but I couldn’t argue with anyone that wanted to roll the dice and key him.

(7) GRACIOUS MAN – Has some high early speed in his arsenal and this is also a barn change as the gelding arrives from The Meadows.

(8) ELIAN EXPRESS – Here is another shipper. This one comes in from Hoosier and also enters a high percentage barn.

Race 4

(8) VILLAGE BOSS – Was like a new horse last week when he almost went wire to wire and posted an impressive 1:57 4/5 mile. It seems like trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. may have him figured out.

(7) REGAL DREAMS – Ships down from Canada for a 32% barn and has half-mile track experience.

Race 5

(1) ZINZINNATI ZEKE – New barn removed the hobbles in his last qualifier and he trotted up a storm on the engine. I’m guessing he’ll go as far and as fast as he can.

(4) HELLO CARLO – Comes off a win at a lower level. If he minds his manners and the top one falters, watch out!

Race 6

(5) JUSTINS LEGACY – He only has $15,626 earned into his 8-year-old season, but he seems to do his best work when he draws inside. This field is pretty weak.

(1) ARTIOVASCULAR – 13-year-old is 1-for-15 on the year but should be moving fast early from the rail. I can’t say I like him on paper, but I respect his chances given the draw.

(7) DR JACKS SHACK – Switched to Aaron Merriman in the bike last time and improved, but the race went pretty fast that night. Gelding deserves some attention.

(4) ROBIN DONTGET – Gets a driver change to Wrenn Jr. and seems worth including.

Race 7

(1) RIGHT ON RAM – Is another shipping down from Canada for Nichole Gagnon. You have to respect the possibility of a wake-up call.

(5) IT’S A DEAL – Has been racing fairly well and seems likely to be on the lead in a hurry.
