Northfield: Rose Run Brooke, Chip Shot best in Ohio Sires Stakes

Driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. and trainer Vernon Beachy joined forces to take both of Wednesday night's $75,000 Ohio Sires Stakes divisions for 3-year-old trotting fillies at Northfield Park.

In the first flight Rose Run Brooke and Wrenn Jr. took the lead nearing the 28 2/5 quarter while Fairytale Moni (Chris Lems) came to the outside from third before that marker, then dropped back down to the pylons in the pocket on the second turn. Rose Run Brooke continued on top to the half in 57 3/5 and the three-quarters in 1:26 4/5, and her 28 3/5 last quarter got her to the wire half a length ahead of Fairytale Moni. Charlotte Elise (Tyler Smith) put in a game effort from first-over and wound up third.

Chip Shot and Wrenn Jr. tucked in third from post eight in the other section while Faster Horses (Aaron Merriman) led early, then was overtaken by Sarah's Mission (Chris Page) past the 27 4/5 quarter-mile station. Sarah's Mission still had control at the half, which was posted in 57 seconds and the 1:25 4/5 three-quarters, but Chip Shot was out and on the move first-over as they raced in the backstretch for the final time.

Sarah's Mission was able to keep Chip Shot at bay on the final bend and turned for home with a narrow advantage, but Chip Shot wore her down through the lane, prevailing by a neck in 1:54 2/5. Sarah's Mission had to settle for second and Readi Two (Sandy Beatty) collected third.
