Northfield: Records galore on Milstein Memorial undercard

Speedy miles were the order of the night at Northfield Park on Saturday, as track records fell or were tied throughout the card that featured the Carl Milstein Memorial.

The venerable campaigner Dancin Yankee (Chris Page) matched All Bets Off's mark of 1:49 2/5 for an older pacing horse when he won the $50,000 Myron Charna President's Pace for trainer Ron Burke and owner Burke Racing Stable LLC. The 11-year-old Yankee Cruiser stallion, who is nearing $2 million in life's earnings and now owns 78 career victories, has won the Charna all four years that it has been held.

The track record for a 3-year-old filly pacer of 1:51 4/5 was equaled by Kevin Lare-trained and Frank Chick-owned Queen Of The Pride (Tony Hall) in the first of two $50,000 Ohio Sires Stakes divisions, and then broken by Donald Yeazel trainee Giggles In Dreams (Shawn Barker II) when she won the other flight in 1:51 2/5. Yeazel also co-owns Giggles In Dreams, a daughter of Nob Hill High, with Michael Yeazel.

Lane Of Stone (Jeff Nisonger) smashed the previous track record of 1:55 2/5 for a 3-year-old colt trotter in the first of three $40,000 Ohio Sires Stakes events for that group, turning in a 1:54 mile for trainer Mark Winters Sr. and owner/breeder Harry Horowitz. That clocking also just missed the North American record for a 3-year-old colt trotter on a half-mile track by a fifth of a second. Lane Of Stone, a son of Wishing Stone, now sports a record of 13-2-0 from 16 tries and has earned $279,393.

The other two Ohio Sires Stakes dashes for sophomore trotting males went to Dylan The Great (Page/Burke) in 1:53 2/5 and Serenity Cruise (Tyler Smith/Brent Davis) in 1:54 2/5.

Dylan The Great, a son of Manofmanymissions owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Larry Karr, J&T Silva- Purnel & Libby, and Weaver Bruscemi LLC., fell just a tick short of matching Yes's track and North American record (3-year-old gelding trotter on a half-mile track). Serenity Cruise, an Uncle Peter gelding, is also owned by his trainer along with Hatfield Stables and R. Mac Davis, and his time gave him a new lifetime mark by two-fifths of a second.
