Northfield: Post nine is fine for Global Girl, Rose Run Yolanda in Ohio Sires Stakes

Global Girl and Rose Run Yolanda were victorious from the trailing post nine in $55,000 Ohio Sires Stakes showdowns for 2-year-old trotting fillies on Sunday night at Northfield Park.

Driven by Don Irvine Jr., Global Girl settled in sixth and began a first-over move on the second turn that carried her into second past the 59 1/5 half. Global Girl sustained her bid past that marker, forged her way by 1-5 favorite and leader Truly Relentless (Chris Lems) before the 1:29 three-quarters, and then drew clear to prevail by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:57 3/5. Truly Relentless held second from Rose Run Yanae (Chris Page).

A daughter of the Muscle Hill stallion Global Republic S, Global Girl is trained by Garry Martin for owner Sue Stockwell. Out of the Malabar Man mare Bullville Ata Girl and bred by Bill Byler, Global Girl fetched $6,500 at last year's Buckeye Yearling Sale and has a record of 1-1-1 from four starts to go with a bankroll of $42,300. She was a 9-1 shot and paid $20.80 to win.

In the other grouping Swinging Senorita (Hunter Myers) drove on two-wide and landed on the point beyond the 29 1/5 opening quarter. She then left out a first-over Jumping The Line (Billy Davis Jr.) through a half in 59 seconds and a three-quarters in 1:28 4/5, while Rose Run Yolanda (Trevor Smith) tracked cover from third-over and second-over.

Rose Run Yolanda tipped out three-wide on the last turn and went by Jumping The Line to take over the first-up spot, and although Swinging Senorita turned for home first and was game through the drive, Rose Run Yolanda had the better kick in the lane, getting up to tally by half a length in 1:58 3/5. Just Like Jessica (Irvine Jr.) grabbed third at 51-1.

She returned $3.20 to win as the 3-5 choice.
