Northfield: Ohio Sires Stakes finals for older campaigners featured on Sunday
Driver Dan Noble won both trots and the tandem of driver Chris Page and trainer Ron Burke took both paces in the $100,000 Ohio Sires Stakes finals for older horses on Sunday night at Northfield Park Racino.
Noble won the mare trot final with Abbey D by 3 3/4 lengths in 1:54 2/5 after she led through fractions of 27 2/5, 57 and 1:25 1/5. Jurassic Hattie (Brett Miller) finished second and Sugar Instead (Page) came in third.
A 7-year-old daughter of Uncle Peter, Abbey D is trained by Deborah Swartz for owner Bradley Delaney. Bred by Kenneth Sommer, Abbey D now has 36 career victories, has earned $583,841 and paid $4.40 to win.
In the final for trotting stallions and geldings, Caviar Gold (Aaron Merriman) led at the 27 3/5 quarter, 56 second half and 1:24 2/5 three-quarters, but Hung Over and Noble wore Caviar Gold down from first-over in the stretch and went on to score by a length and a half in 1:54. Hilltop Sonar (Page) was the runner-up and Caviar Gold held third.
Breeder Bluestone Farms LLC. co-owns the victorious 5-year-old gelded son of Creatine with Lynda Stewart. Trained by Bob Stewart, Hung Over has 16 wins, six seconds and 15 thirds from 53 efforts, has pocketed $696,130 and returned $3 to win.

Page and Burke's first success came in the mare pace with Fearless Ginger. She watched from the pocket as Skywalker Sea (Austin Hanners) ripped off a quick tempo of 26 2/5 and 53 3/5, then came to the outside before the 1:22 2/5 three-quarters as Dragon By The Sea (Tyler Smith) went three-wide off the parked cover of Odds On Chesapeake (Luke Hanners). Fearless Ginger and Dragon By The Sea would battle through the final quarter, but Fearless Ginger came out on top, scoring by half a length in 1:51 3/5. Beautiful Seaside (Trevor Smith) finished third.
Fearless Ginger is a 5-year-old Emerald Highlands Farm-bred mare by Fear The Dragon and is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC. and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. She has a summary of 25-21-13 from 84 tries, has banked $601,375 and paid $16.60 to win as a 7-1 offering.
Paris's Dragon and Page went to the lead from post one in the final for pacing stallions and geldings and cut the quarter in 27 4/5, then gave the cold shoulder to Clever Cody (Luke Ebersole) as he pulled out of the pocket on the second turn to challenge Paris's Dragon through middle-half stations of 56 3/5 and 1:23 4/5. A phalanx of horses tried to close in on Paris's Dragon through the lane, but he was resolute and held sway by half a length in 1:52 4/5. Rick Wink (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) crossed the wire off-stride in second and was placed back to fifth, elevating Clever Cody to second and Charlie May (Noble) to third.
Dennis Owens bred and now co-owns Paris's Dragon, a 5-year-old gelding by Fear The Dragon, with Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC. and Larry Karr. Paris's Dragon made his 22nd trip to the winner's circle from 64 appearances, has put away $738,142 and returned $7.60 to win as the 5-2 second choice.
