Northfield: Ohio Sires Stakes action featured on Sunday night
After a tough trip in the Courageous Lady against open company most recently, top Buckeye State-sired sophomore pacing filly Seaside Diva returned to her winning ways in one of two $65,000 Ohio Sires Stakes tilts on Sunday night at MGM Northfield Park. Naked On A Hill was the other victor.
With Ronnie Wrenn Jr. in the bike for the first time, Seaside Diva worked two-wide past a 27 second opening quarter to secure the front-end from No Foolin April (Brett Miller). Once she had command, Seaside Diva contined to show the way through a 55 4/5 and a 1:24 three-quarters before she drew off from her five foes in a 28 second last quarter, prevailing by 6 1/4 lengths in 1:52 flat. No Foolin April held second, followed by Katies Up (Hunter Myers).
A homebred for Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., Knox Services Inc. and Let It Ride Stables Inc., Seaside Diva is a daughter of Downbytheseaside. The Ron Burke trainee has a summary of 13-3-2 from 22 starts, has earned $545,305 and paid $2.10 to win as the 1-9 favorite.

There was also a 1-9 shot, Wasted On You (Miller), in the opening split, but she made a break past the 27 4/5 quarter while on the point, giving the top spot to I'm A Beach Lady (Aaron Merriman). She would get to the half first in 57 2/5 and then picked up the tempo to 1:24 4/5 at three-quarters as Bad Girls Racing (Dan Noble) came to the outside from the pocket, giving cover to Naked On A Hill (Jeff Nisonger).
Nisonger put Naked On A hill three-wide on the final bend, and after being shown the clear racetrack, Naked On A Hill vaulted into the lead in the lane. From there, she edged clear from I'm A Beach Lady, tallying by a length and a quarter in 1:54 flat. Zuma Beach (Wrenn Jr.) was the third-place finisher.
Naked On A Hill, by Nob Hill High, was bred by owner Dennis Shaner and is trained by Mark Winters. She is now a nine-time winner from 23 trips behind the gate, has pocketed $165,609 and returned $17.20 to win as a 7-1 offering.
