Northfield: Ohio Sires Stakes action featured on Sunday
Favorites were perfect in $75,000 Ohio Sires Stakes races for 3-year-old male trotters and 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers on Sunday night at Northfield Park.
Tom Largo (Chris Lems) won the first trotting division in 1:54 1/5 after he led through fractions of 28 2/5, 57 2/5 and 1:25 4/5, defeating pocket-sitter Rose Run Banker (Chris Page) by a length. Grape Crush (Brett Miller) was third.
A Long Tom gelding bred by Midland Acres Inc., Tom Largo is trained by Scott Cox for owners Jughead Stables LLC., G Peters and Robert Kubiak. Tom Largo has won half of his 16 career starts, has earned $265,900 and paid $3.20 to win.
In the other trot, Rose Run Boom (Luke Hanners) pulled out of the pocket before the 28 1/5 quarter and took the top spot away from Knob Creek Moni (Dan Noble) beyond that station. Once he was in command, Rose Run Boom hit the half in 58 1/5 and the three-quarters in 1:27, and his 29 1/5 final quarter got him to the wire three-quarters of a length ahead of Knob Creek Moni in a 1:56 1/5 performance. Special Moni (Lems) collected third.
The victorious gelding by In Range was sent out by Steve Carter for owners Jeff Fought Racing, Brian Carsey, Adam Friedland and Jacob Beard. The Rose Run Farm-bred has a summary of 3-2-3 from 17 efforts, has pocketed $131,511 and returned $3.20 to win.

Switching over to the pacers, North Rim (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) led a sweep of the exacta for trainer Ron Burke in their first split. North Rim was on top at the 28 4/5 quarter, 58 2/5 half and 1:27 three-quarters, then closed in 28 seconds to defeat pocket-sitter and stablemate Ocean Party (Page) by a length in 1:55. Stateroom (Mike Micallef) got third.
Bred by Diamond Creek Farm LLC. and Woodside Farm, North Rim is owned by Hatfield Stables, Marvin Katz LLC., Brad Grant and Soderberg Bloodstock LLC. North Rim, who was third in the Next Generation at Scioto on July 4, broke his maiden in his second try, has banked $55,500 and paid $3.60 to win.
Next Generation champion Don'ttruckwithme (Lems) won the other pace in 1:53 3/5. Don'ttruckwithme made the lead with little dispute in a 28 second quarter, and after he backed down the middle-half tempo to 58 seconds and 1:26 1/5, he zipped home in 27 2/5 to beat pocket-sitter First Grade (Page) by three lengths. Jett James (B. Miller) was rebuffed by the winner after a first-over journey and had to settle for third.
Wayne Mast Jr., Eden Acres Farmstead LLC. and Kirk Nichols own the Judy Roegner-bred Don'ttruckwithme and Daren Harvey is his trainer. A Catch The Fire gelding, Don'ttruckwithme has put away $112,500 to go with him unblemished record and returned $3.60 to win.
