Northfield: Jurassic Hattie, Clever Cody capture $100,000 invitationals

Jurassic Hattie was placed the winner of the $100,000 Tom Aldrich Memorial for Ohio-sired older trotters, while Clever Cody led throughout to take the companion $100,000 Myron Charna President's Pace for Ohio-sired older pacers on Saturday night's card at Northfield Park.

Legacy Affair (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) took the lead away from Jurassic Hattie (Brett Miller) past the 26 4/5 quarter in the Aldrich, and after middle-half stations of 55 seconds and 1:23 3/5, Legacy Affair held off Jurassic Hattie by a neck in 1:53 3/5. However, the judges determined during an inquiry that Legacy Affair had gone inside two consecutive pylons on the final turn and wound up reversing the finishing order to place Jurassic Hattie first and Legacy Affair second. Jogging Full Trot (Chris Lems) was third.

A 5-year-old Volstead mare owned by breeder Jerry Welch, Jurassic Hattie is trained by Stacey Van Huizen. Jurassic Hattie is a 17-time winner from 46 tries, has pocketed $757,219 and paid $8.60 to win as a 3-1 offering.

Starting from post one in the Charna, Clever Cody (Luke Ebersole) shot to the front, had command through stations of 26, 54 1/5 and 1:22 3/5 and closed in 27 3/5 to defeat pocket-sitter Charlie May (Dan Noble) by three-quarters of a length in 1:50 1/5. Rose Run Zane (Justin Irvine) collected third.

Clever Cody is a 5-year-old stallion by The Panderosa and is owned by trainer Francois Lecomte. He has a summary of 15-6-4 from 50 starts, has banked $835,313 and returned $10.60 to win as a 4-1 shot.
