Northfield: It was an Ohio Sires Stakes smorgasbord on Wednesday night
A total of eight Ohio Sires Stakes events for 2-year-olds - two flights for the trotting fillies, three for the trotting males, and a trio for the filly pacers - happened on Wednesday's program at MGM Northfield Park.
The filly trotters went for $55,000 apiece in their divisions, with the victories going to One Fancy Lady, a daughter of Long Tom bred by Midland Acres, who tallied from first-over in 1:58 for driver Don Irvine Jr., co-owner/trainer Rosy Weaver and co-owners Heartland Acres and Kabby D LLC., and Sugar Instead, a Volstead filly bred by Elmer Miller, who front-stepped her way to a 1:56 4/5 decision for driver Ronnie Gillespie, trainer Virgil Morgan Jr., and owners Joyce McClelland and David Wills.
In the $40,000 splits for trotting colts and geldings, favorites went three-for-three.
Creatine gelding Royal Precedent took the first section on the front-end in 1:58 1/5 for driver Aaron Merriman, trainer Sam Schillaci and owner/breeder Claude Gendreau Stb Inc., and then Gypsy Hill, by What The Hill and bred by Spring Haven Farm, rallied in the passing lane in the stretch and scored in 1:58 2/5 for driver Anthony MacDonald, trainer Jason McGinnis and owners Thestable Gypsy Hill Group and Hutchison Harness LLC.
Finally, Tennessee Tom (Chris Page) went to the point, navigated around some geese that came near the track in the second quarter, and held sway to the wire, stopping the clock in 2:00 1/5 for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., Hatfield Stables and Knox Services Inc. Tennessee Tom is a Long Tom gelding and was bred by Albert Miller.

Sire Downbytheseaside dominated the action for pacing fillies as he was responsible for all of the winners.
Heartofthesea, a Crawford Farms-bred, got the job done to kick off those races as she got to the top from post seven and went on to a 1:55 decision for driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr., trainer Brian Brown and owners Country Club Acres Inc., Wingfield Brothers LLC. and David Van Dusen.
Seaside Diva (Page) would take command beyond the 27 3/5 quarter in the next test and then battle back after being passed by Fearless Ginger (Chris Lems) nearing the 1:24 2/5 three-quarters to triumph in 1:52 3/5 for trainer Ron Burke and co-owners/breeders Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., Knox Services Inc., and Let It Ride Stables Inc.
Finally, Flyin Bullets (Brett Miller) went three-wide from second-over going to the 1:23 4/5 in the last section and wore down Beautiful Lather (Merriman) in the stretch to get a 1 1/2 length victory in 1:53 4/5. Trained by Clair Umholtz, Flyin Bullets was bred by Dave Yoder and is owned by Umholtz & Kennedy Racing LLC.
