Northfield: Hey Hey Mama ties world record in Ohio Sires Stakes victory

Greg Reinhart|Jun 24, 2023

Hey Hey Mama equaled Party Girl Hill's world record of 1:49 3/5 for a 3-year-old filly pacer on a half-mile track in winning the first of two $55,000 Ohio Sires Stakes divisions on Saturday evening at MGM Northfield Park. McSeaside would capture the other section.

Super Girl (Billy Davis Jr.) led early after blasting out from post five, but she would be overtaken by Dragon By The Sea (Chris Page) passing the 26 4/5 opening quarter, and then Hey Hey Mama (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) would loop both of them out of third and take charge past the first station. From there Hey Hey Mama rolled through a 55 second half and a 1:22 1/5 three-quarters before sailing home in 27 2/5 to win by 3 1/4 lengths over Super Girl. Hysterical (Jason Thompson) held on for third after a first-over effort.

A daughter of Downbytheseaside bred by Fiddler's Creek Stables, Hey Hey Mama is owned by Country Club Acres Inc., Milt Leeman, Joe Sbrocco and Acadia Farms. Unraced at 2, she has six wins, a second and a third from eight starts in 2023, has pocketed $88,500 and paid $3.20 to win as the 3-5 choice.

In the other flight Angel Hill (Luke Ebersole), the 4-5 favorite, put up fractions of 27, 54 3/5 and 1:21 2/5 with Fear Of Sports (Wrenn Jr.) popping the pocket at three-quarters and giving cover to McSeaside (Page). Angel Hill managed to fight off Fear Of Sports into the lane, but McSeaside came with a wide rally through the drive that carried her by both Angel Hill and Fear Of Sports to tally by half a length in 1:50 2/5. Fear Of Sports finally got by Angel Hill in the late going to finish second as the pace-setter faded to third.

Ron Burke trains the victorious Downbytheseaside filly for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Beasty LLC., J&T Silva Stables, LLC. and Knox Services Inc. Bred by Andray Farm and Sergent Stables LLC., McSeaside is now a six-time winner, pushed her earnings to $385,614 and returned $8.40 to win as the 3-1 third choice.
