Northfield: Galleria Hanover cruises in Courageous Lady

Galleria Hanover picked up her most significant victory to date by taking the $100,000 Courageous Lady for 3-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday night at Northfield Park.

Driven by Ronnie Wrenn Jr., Galleria Hanover motored right to the front from post one, and then the complexion of the race changed dramatically late on the first turn when even-money favorite Captain Cowboy (Tim Tetrick), who had gotten away in third from the trailing post nine, made an extended break and lost all chance.

With the public's choice no longer in the picture, Galleria Hanover was unchallenged through fractions of 27 3/5, 56 1/5, and 1:23 2/5, and she would pull away in a 27 2/5 last quarter, winning by 5 3/4 lengths in 1:50 4/5. Valar Dohaeris (Mark MacDonald) held second after a pocket trip, and Give Me This Dance (Aaron Merriman) held off Sweet Treasure (Chris Lems) for third.

"I wanted to push hard leaving the gate," said a jubilant Wrenn Jr. "She (Galleria Hanover) raced well tonight; when Captain Cowgirl broke, the race completely changed."

Ron Burke trains Galleria Hanover, a daughter of Always B Miki bred by Fashion Farms, for owners W.J. Donovan, Purnel & Libby LLC., and Joe Sbrocco. Galleria Hanover has a record of 5-3-6 from 28 career starts, has now earned $219,728, and returned $12.20 to win as the 5-1 third choice.
