Northfield: Freshmen fillies show their stuff in Ohio Sire Stakes

webmaster|Aug 15, 2019

Twenty-one freshmen trotting fillies went postward on a slightly humid, yet pleasant Wednesday evening, Aug. 14 at Northfield Park in a trio of $40,000 Ohio Sires Stakes contests.

The first division saw 25-1 Lima Gold bust loose in late stretch to prevail by a length for driver Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. The Chris Beaver trainee, a daughter by Coraggioso, tripped the timer in 1:57 for Spaaaartners of Ballston Spa, NY, returning a hefty $61.20 on a two dollar ticket.

Miss Stunner was second for Chris Page at 25-1 with 14-1 Aqua Lillies third for Brett Miller. The win was Lima Gold’s second in four tries as she had captured her OSS Leg One at Northfield on July 3 in 1:58 2/5. Bred by Willis Miller of Huntsburg, Ohio, Lima Gold has earned $40,000 thus far in her brief career.

Lima Gold is the third foal out of the Jailhouse Jess mare Lima Halo, 3, 1:59 3/5 ($16,268).

In the second OSS test Uncle Peter’s Love and driver Brett Miller didn’t disappoint her backers at 2-1 odds, trotting to a front-stepping 1:58 1/5 clocking for trainer and owner Erv Miller. This daughter of Uncle Peter had won her OSS Leg Two in 1:59 2/5 and has $45,144 in career earnings from two wins and one second in five starts.

Compass Rose DC, the even-money favorite, was second for driver James MacDonald, while 7-2 Jogging Ms Lucy was third with Kurt Sugg at the lines.

Uncle Peter’s Love was bred by Randy and Michael Wilt and is the fourth foal out of the unraced Muscle’s Yankee mare Love Me Two Times, making her a full sister to Mystical Peter 3, 1:58 1/5 ($29,635) and a half-sister to Chapter Review (by Chapter Seven) 3, 1:54 4/5 ($34,537) and Fast Love (by Chapter Seven) 3, 1:58h ($26,928).

In the final OSS contest, it was 30-1 longshot Sabia Dream and driver Chris Lems who took home first place prize money. The daughter of Dejarmbro used come-from-behind tactics to score a 1:57 1/5 triumph by 1 1/4 lengths over 25-1 longshot Cant Break Rosie (Chris Page) with 9-1 Dream Change (Greg Grismore) third.

Sabia Dream returned $66.40 on a two dollar ticket and pushed her bankroll to $29,706 with her first lifetime victory for owners Carrie Norris, Ljb Racing and Roger Wallace of Pennsylvania and Ohio. Kelly O’Donnell trains the filly who is the seventh foal out of the unraced Muscle Yankee mare Selena Blue Chip, and a full sister to Simona Dream 4, Q1:56 1/5 ($34,628) and a half-sister to Song Dream (by In Dix Huit) 3, 1:59 3/5 ($22,691).

Ohio Sires Stakes action continues Friday night (Aug. 16) at Scioto Downs with two $50,000 divisions for 3-year-old trotting fillies and Saturday (Aug. 17) with three $40,000 divisions for 2-year-old pacing colts.
