Northfield: Freshmen colts to battle Saturday
Three $40,000 Ohio Sires Stakes divisions will feature 2-year-old pacing colts on Saturday night, July 25 at Northfield Park. These contests are these contests are the second round of action in the four-leg series. Post time is 6 pm, ET.
A total of 22 youngsters passed the Northfield entry box for these OSS battles. Ohio-registered stallions represented include four by first crop sire Racing Hill, three by Well Said and two each by McArdle and Pet Rock. Other stallions represented include Art Official, Cheyenne Rei, Domethatagain, Manhardt, Mr Apples, The Panderosa, Rockin Amadeus, Western Vintage, Western Terror, Woodstock and Yankee Cruiser.
In the first OSS division (Race 1), seven freshmen sidewinders will line up behind the Northfield gate, including Leg 1 winner Laughagain Hanover, who captured his first OSS in 1:54 3/5 for driver Peter Wrenn and trainer Laura Searway. The son of McArdle is owned by Cimaglio, Richardson and Gilmartin and has $22,248 in earnings.
OSS Leg 1 winner Hardt At Work and Charlie May face off in the second division (Race 4). Owned by Brett Boyd Racing and Anthony Fomosa, Hardt At Work is a son of Manhardt conditioned and driven by Mike Micallef. This youngster scored a 1:55 1/5 triumph at Scioto Downs on July 11 and has two wins in two career starts with $23,750 in earnings.
Charlie May is a brown unaltered son by McArdle trained by Steve Carter for Don Tiger. This youngster won his Leg 1 event in 1:54 1/5 with Danny Noble at the lines in a wire-to-wire effort and sports a bankroll of $95,000 as he also captured the Next Generation Pace at Scioto in his first career start.
Odds On Pick Six is the clear standout in the third OSS contest (Race 7), having won Leg 1 in 1:54 2/5 at Scioto on July 11. Trained by Melanie Wrenn for Odds On Racing, the son of Racing Hill has that win and a second place finish in the aforementioned Next Generation Pace and has accumulated $57,500 thus far in his brief career.
