Older Ohio-sired Standardbreds were featured in the $100,000 Tom Aldrich President's Trot and $100,000 Myron Charna President's Pace on the undercard of the Carl Milstein Memorial on Saturday night at MGM Northfield Park. In the Aldrich, Ferretti (Matt Kakaley) made his way around Big Box Hanover (Luke Hanners) to take the lead past the 27 1/5 quarter and repelled a first-over challenge from Longshot (Chris Lems) to the 56 2/5 half and the 1:24 3/5 three-quarters. Ferretti put Longshot away for good on the last turn and none of the closers could chase him down in the lane as Ferretti scored by two lengths in 1:54 2/5. Big Box Hanover held second from a gaining Sugar Instead (Tyler Smith). "A few starts ago at Pocono he was scary-good, then he was just so-so. He was not really on top of his game," Kakaley said after the win. "I guess he was good last time at Yonkers. I didn't drive him, but I'm a big fan of the horse. Travis (trainer Travis Alexander) just got him off the Lorentzons, and they did a great job with him. I drove him a little bit for them, too, but I've always liked this horse. "It's been a really long time since I think he's been on the front, so I was a little worried about how he would take it, but he just waited for them to get close and he raced them. He was super and he's a nice horse." Alexander trains the winner, a 6-year-old gelding by Creatine, for owners David Rovine Stable LLC. and CTC Stable. Ferretti picked up his 17th career victory, has now put away $339,858 and paid $12.60 to win. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Paris's Dragon (Dan Noble) led through fractions of 26 3/5, 55 3/5 and 1:22 1/5 in a 1:50 2/5 victory in the Charna. Racing Rebel (Chris Page), the 4-5 favorite, closed off stalled cover from second-over but came up three-quarters of a length short and Dunkin' (Tim Tetrick) was third after an extended first-over grind that was blunted in that 26 3/5 third quarter Paris's Dragon threw down. "He's been something special. In the beginning Dennis (breeder/co-owner Dennis Owens) wanted to get rid of him, and I talked him into keeping him," Noble remarked. "I thought the horse had a very good racing career ahead of him." Christi Noble trains Paris's Dragon, a 4-year-old gelding by Fear The Dragon. Co-owned by Noble's Norman Rae Racing LLC. with Owens, Paris's Dragon has a summary of 15-8-4 from 39 starts, has pocketed $499,747 and returned $18 to win.
