Northfield: Fear Of Sports swiftest in Monday's Ohio Sires Stakes
Fear Of Sports clocked a 1:52 2/5 mile to lead the way in a trio of $40,000 Ohio Sires Stakes tilts for rookie pacing fillies on Monday night at Northfield Park.
Racing in the second flight, driver Tyler Smith guided Fear Of Sports to the outside from third going to the 28 1/5 opening quarter and brushed to the point past that marker. Once she was in command, Fear Of Sports sped through a 56 2/5 half and a 1:24 4/5 three-quarters, then sprinted home in 27 3/5 to win by three lengths over Elvette Hanover (Chris Page). More The Merrier (Aaron Merriman) finished third.
A daughter of Fear The Dragon-Sportin The Gold, Fear Of Sports is trained by Kelly O'Donnell for owner/breeder Emerald Highlands Farm. She has two wins and two seconds in four starts, has now earned $37,875, and paid $4.20 to win as the second choice.
Back in the first division, Lofty Treasure (Tony Hall) led early but wound up third before the 27 1/5 opening quarter and remained in that position at the 56 2/5 half. Lofty Treasure continued to get shuffled back to fifth on the way to the 1:25 1/5 three-quarters, but Hall was able to vacate the pylons with his charge on the last turn, continued to fan out late on the bend, rallied in the lane, and got up late to defeat Onederful Beach (Merriman) by a head in 1:54 2/5. Calgary (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.), the 1-9 favorite who was coming off a victory in a leg and the final of the Oak Grove Sires Stakes in Kentucky, had to settle for third after turning into the stretch on the lead.
Lofty Treasure is a Beachtrea-Lofty Yankee filly trained by Cory Mumford for owner Frank Chick. Bred by Spring Haven Farm and purchased for $11,000 at last year's Ohio Selected Jug Sale, Lofty Treasure broke her maiden in her fourth chance, pushed her bankroll to $45,038, and returned $16.80 to win as a 7-1 offering.
In the last grouping, My Red Sea (Kayne Kauffman) blasted out from post one, released a two-wide Boyzcalmecarlwayne (Hunter Myers), and then re-moved around that rival after the 27 1/5 opening quarter. From there, My Red Sea reached the half in 56 seconds and the three-quarters in 1:24 4/5 on her way to a 1 3/4 length victory in 1:53 4/5. Seaside Tina (Trevor Smith) was the runner-up after a first-over try, and No Fear Intended (Brett Miller) took third.

Kauffman also trains My Red Sea, a filly by Downbytheseaside, for owners Redline Racing Stables LLC., Redracer LLC., and David Van Dusen. Out of the Jereme's Jet mare My Hare Lady and bred by the late Schare Adams, My Red Sea was acquired for $75,000 at the 2021 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale. She has compiled a record of 2-0-0 from three efforts, has now pocketed $98,200, and paid $5.80 to win as the 9-5 second choice.
