Northfield Charlie May swiftest in Ohio Sires Stakes

Charlie May, the 3-2 favorite, set a national season’s mark in the second of three $40,000 Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings on a balmy Saturday night, July 25 at Northfield Park. The youngster was clocked in 1:53 for driver Dan Noble and trainer Steve Carter.
Owned by breeder Don R. Tiger, the son of McArdle has amassed $115,000 in his brief career and now has three wins in three starts. Hardt At Work was second at 4-5 odds for trainer-driver Mike Micallef, with 12-1 Jackie Moon getting up for third with Chris Page driving. Charlie May, a chocolate brown colt, won his split of the first leg of the OSS in 1:54 2/5 for these same connections with a similar front-stepping effort.
Laughagain Hanover, steered by Peter Wrenn in the first OSS contest, won from first-over and was timed in 1:55. The son of McArdle is trained by Laura Searway for owners Cimaglio, Richardson, and Gilmartin and also captured his division of the first leg of this series on July 11 at Scioto Downs, stopping the timer in a career best 1:54 3/5. Laughagain Hanover left the gate at 9-5 odds, finishing a length in front of 3-5 Home Team (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.), with Dcrockinmoondancer (Kurt Sugg) third at 9-1 odds. Laughagain Hanover now has $40,248 in earnings and is three-for-three lifetime.
I'm Sorry Man, an 8-1 shot, overcame the leading 2-5 favorite Odds On Pick Six (Wrenn) to capture the third OSS tilt in 1:53 2/5. Driven by Kayne Kauffman for breeder-owner Matt Rowe, the Mr. Apples gelding was third in the first round of the OSS, and this second round triumph was his first career victory, upping his career earnings to $42,800. Big Money Mike, at 9-1 in the wagering, was third for Wrenn Jr.
