Northfield: Breakthrough winners in Ohio Sires Stakes
A trio of Downbytheseaside 2=year-old fillies who'd yet to win a race before Wednesday night's card at MGM Northfield Park - Heartofthesea, Seaside Diva and Flyin Bullets - took the victories in $40,000 Ohio Sires Stakes splits.
Heartofthesea yielded to sit in the pocket behind Queen B And Me (Ryan Stahl) at the 28 second opening quarter in the first division, and after remaining in the two-hole to the 57 1/5 half, attacked two-wide en route to the 1:25 3/5 three-quarters. Heartoftheseas was able to get by Queen B And Me passing three-quarters, and from there, she drew off to tally by 5 1/2 lengths in a 1:53 2/5 mile. Cruiser Cancelled (Elliott Deaton) was up for second and Queen B And Me held third.
Brian Brown trains Heartofthesea, bred by Crawford Farms, for owners Country Club Acres Inc., Wingfield Brothers LLC. and David Van Dusen. An $80,000 buy at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, she has a win and a third from two attempts, has banked $24,800 and paid $9.20 to win as a 7-2 offering.
In the second grouping Seaside Diva (Chris Page) pulled to the outside from second heading to the 27 2/5 opening quarter and took the top spot away from 6-5 favorite Rose Run Zoey (Tyler Smith) on the second turn. Once she got control, Seaside Diva kept it through a 56 4/5 half and a 1:25 2/5 three-quarters, then drew off in a 27 3/5 final kicker, downing Rose Run Zoey by 3 1/4 lengths in 1:53. Sistermarystigmata (Matt Kakaley) collected third.
Bred by owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., Knox Services Inc. and Let It Ride Stables Inc., Seaside Diva is trained by Ron Burke. She has a record of 1-2-0 from four starts, sent her earnings to $62,750 and returned $10.20 to win as the 4-1 third choice.

4-5 favorite Magestic Seas (Wrenn Jr.) left from post eight and hit the front past the 28 second opening quarter in the final flight, and she would stay on point through middle-half stations of 56 4/5 and 1:25 2/5. However, she gave way on the last turn to a first-up Sarah Said (Stahl), and then began to back up, sending fillies two-wide off the rail. One of those was Flyin Bullets (Brett Miller), who'd been in the three-hole.
Sarah Said had the jump on the others turning for home and was helped when Fearless Ginger (Chris Lems) went wide while in pursuit, but Flyin Bullets was able to angle back down into the passing lane after getting around the weakening Magestic Seas, and it would be Flyin Bullets who got up to prevail by half a length in 1:54 1/5. Fearless Ginger re-rallied late and was the runner-up, with Sarah Said third.
Flyin Bullets, who sold for $150,000 at last year's Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, is trained by Clair Umholtz for owner Umholtz & Kennedy Racing LLC. Bred by Dave Yoder, Flyin Bullets added this victory to a second in the Buckeye Stallion Series in her debut, has put away $25,000, and returned $47.80 to win as a 22-1 shot.
