Northfield: 2YO pacers compete in Ohio Sires Stakes

Greg Reinhart|Jul 21, 2024

Rookie pacers came to MGM Northfield Park on Sunday night for Ohio Sires Stakes contests. There were two $65,000 splits for both the boys and the fillies.

Swingtown and Rick Wink both remained undefeated for the tandem of driver Chris Page and trainer Ron Burke by winning their respective tests for colts and geldings.

Coming off wins in The Next Generation and a sire stakes event at Eldorado Scioto Downs to start his career, Swingtown scored impressively in his flight tonight, as he came with a two-wide attack out of fourth before the 57 second half that carried him into the lead late on the third turn. From there, he put three-quarters on the board in 1:24 3/5 and then came home in 27 3/5 to defeat a game Pants On Fire (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) by a length and a half in 1:52 1/5. My First Fire (Austin Hanners) got third.

A Downbytheseaside colt bred by Steiner Stock Farm, Swingtown is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC., Hatfield Stables, Knox Services Inc. and R A S Racing LLC. He has earned $132,500 and paid $3.00 to win as the 1-2 choice.

Rick Wink brushed to the engine past the 27 4/5 quarter in the other test for the males, and after he clicked off a 57 second half and a 1:26 three-quarters, he used a 28 1/5 final kicker to stop the timer in 1:54 1/5 and seal the deal on his 4 1/2 length triumph over Spiritshappyending (Tyler Smith). Fabio Hanover was third.

Burke Racing Stable LLC., R A S Racing LLC., Knox Services Inc. and J&T Silva- Purnel & Libby own Rick Wink, a colt by Bit Of A Legend N. The Larry Miller-bred has pocketed $63,500 and also returned $3.00 to win.

In the sections for the fillies, Odds On Hialeah won from first-over in 1:54 3/5 for driver Dan Noble and trainer Virgil Morgan Jr., defeating Witching Blue Chip (Trevor Smith) and Queen Of Fear (Wrenn Jr.), and Prolific Fire (Austin Hanners) led through panels of 27 2/5, 57 4/5 and 1:27 3/5 en route to a one length tally over Sectionline Flame (Noble) and Rose Run Ashlee (Page).

Odds On Hialeah is a daughter of Lather Up bred by Odds On Nourrir and owned by Odds On Racing. The Virgil Morgan Jr. trainee is three-for-three in the win column, has put away $71,000 and paid $3.60 to win.

Prolific Fire, by Catch The Fire, was sent out by trainer Todd Luther for owner Greg Luther Racing LLC. Bred by Spring Haven Farm, Prolific Fire broke her maiden in her third chance, has now banked $52,300 and returned $4.80 to win.
