Norman trial date set

A trial date for trainer Cole Norman, who on Monday pleaded not guilty to a manslaughter charge tied to an automobile accident in Hot Springs, Ark., in February, has been set for Oct. 24, according to Bev Cowart, chief deputy clerk for Garland County Circuit Court in Hot Springs.

Norman is set for a jury trial, said Cowart. It will be presided over by judge John Homer Wright.

Norman was involved in a head-on car collision Feb. 5 that resulted in the death of an 86-year-old woman. Norman, 38, was found to have prescription painkillers in his blood system following the accident.

Manslaughter is a Class C felony charge under Arkansas law. It carries a punishment range of no fewer than three and no more than 10 years imprisonment, or a fine of $10,000, or a combination of a fine and prison.
