Nobody Listens, the winner of Saturday’s Grade 3 Turf Monster Stakes at Parx, died in a freak accident in his horse trailer Sunday, his connections said.
According to trainer Tim Eggleston, Nobody Listens got spooked by a loud braking sound made from a semi-truck near his horse trailer on a highway in the vicinity of Columbus, Ohio. Nobody Listens slipped in his boxed stall and hit something that caused him to sever an artery, Eggleston said.
The horse was vanning back to Horseshoe Indianapolis where he is based.
“Tough day around here,” Eggleston said Monday by phone. “Every time he ran, he got better. His last two, three, or four races were just phenomenal. This was probably his biggest test.”
Eggleston, who was unable to attend the race at Parx, said the plan was to point Nobody Listens to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on Nov. 4 at Santa Anita.
The news of Nobody Listens death was first posted by part owner Matt Kwiatkowski on Facebook Sunday night.
“We love and cherish every moment that we shared with him,” Kwiatkowski wrote. “The ride Nobody Listens took us on was the greatest we have ever been on. Our hearts are broken as we share this tragic news. Thank you to all who supported and helped make him who he was.”
Kwiatkowski owned Nobody Listens in partnership with Jason Kaylor and Roger Browning.
Nobody Listens, a 5-year-old Indiana-bred gelding by Conveyance, won the Turf Monster in front-running fashion under Tyler Gaffalione for his fourth consecutive victory. It was his first graded stakes win and fifth stakes victory overall.
Nobody Listens had a record of 14-7-1 from 26 starts and earned $704,230.
