'Nobiz' early future choice

Despite being defeated last weekend in the Fountain of Youth, Nobiz Like Shobiz was a lukewarm favorite following light wagering in the opening hours of Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

As of 4:30 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, the first of four days for wagering into Pool 2, Nobiz Like Shobiz was the 5-1 choice despite his third-place finish as the odds-on favorite last Saturday at Gulfstream.

Nobiz Like Shobiz was followed by Street Sense at 7-1, then the mutuel field, the "all others" alternative to the 23 separately listed interests, at 8-1. Then came Any Given Saturday (11-1), Circular Quay (13-1), Great Hunter (13-1), Ravel (14-1), and Scat Daddy (14-1). Among those, only Circular Quay, the favorite for the Louisiana Derby on Saturday, was scheduled to race this weekend. Handle in the win-only bet was $17,728.

The field was the 7-2 favorite in Pool 2 of the Kentucky Oaks futures after just $2,396 in handle. Dreaming of Anna was the 5-1 second choice, with Rags to Riches third at 7-1.

Wagering for the Derby pool closes Sunday at 6 p.m. Eastern, while the Oaks closes a half-hour later.
