No trip to Royal Ascot for Run Away

ARCADIA, Calif. – Run Away, a maiden-race winner in his debut at Santa Anita on May 26, will not be sent to England for the Royal Ascot meeting next week and is likely to start in a stakes at Churchill Downs or Santa Anita in the coming weeks.
Trainer Simon Callaghan said on Wednesday that Run Away did not breeze as well as expected in a half-mile workout in 48.20 seconds on turf at Keeneland last Sunday. Run Away was under consideration for the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at five furlongs on turf at Royal Ascot on June 22.
“We decided against it,” Callaghan said. “He had to do an exceptional work.”
Owned by Kaleem Shah, Run Away is possible for two $100,000 races on dirt – the Grade 3 Bashford Manor Stakes at six furlongs at Churchill Downs on June 30 or the Santa Anita Juvenile at 5 1/2 furlongs on July 2.
Run Away was purchased for $325,000 at this year’s Barretts March sale of 2-year-olds in training.
