No set plans for Sheer Drama, Lady Shipman

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Two locally based members of the Breeders’ Cup class of 2015, Sheer Drama and Lady Shipman, are both currently on the farm in Ocala with nothing set in stone at the moment regarding their futures. Sheer Drama finished fourth in the BC Distaff, despite breaking from the extreme outside in the bulky 14-horse lineup, while Lady Shipman finished second, narrowly defeated by Mongolian Saturday, in the BC Turf Sprint.
Sheer Drama was a two time Grade 1 winner this season. She also won the Grade 2 Royal Delta here in March for trainer David Fawkes and owner-breeder Harold Queen.
“Right now, no decision has been made as to whether she’ll race again in 2016 or be retired to stud,” Fawkes said. “I thought she ran huge to be fourth from that post in that field in the Distaff, and I just hope to see her back here again next season.”
Lady Shipman, a 3-year-old filly by Midshipman based at Gulfstream Park West last winter and spring, kicked off the year with an easy allowance win here on New Year’s Day before going on to capture six stakes races under the tutelage of Kathleen O’Connell.
“She’s getting some rest and relaxation on the farm,” O’Connell said. “She’ll go back into training on the farm next month, at which point we’ll discuss a game plan. She has been invited to Dubai, but that trip can be awfully hard on a horse, so at this moment, I’m not sure what direction we’ll take.”
