No Secrets Here takes All American Futurity

Ty Wyant|Sep 05, 2006

Trainer Paul Jones and jockey Cody Jensen won the Grade 1, $1.9 million for the second straight year when their No Secrets Here took to a rain-soaked track and scored in stakes-record time Monday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

In 2005, Teller Cartel won his maiden in the All American Futurity for Jones and Jensen.

"There's a lot more expectations this year," said Jensen. "This year, we knew we had a good enough horse to win it if we got the right trip, and thank God we did."

No Secrets Here raced the quarter mile in 20.88 seconds, breaking the 440-yard stakes record of 21.00 seconds set by DM Shicago in 2004. The track was sloppy after more than five inches of rain fell on Ruidoso from Friday night through Monday afternoon.

No Secrets Here prevailed over Gun Battle, the 5-2 favorite, by a neck to earn the $1 million first-place check. Those two pulled away from the field in the last half of the race, with No Secrets Here finishing stronger in the final 100 yards. It was three-quarters of a length back to 17-1 longshot Dont Let Down in third.

No Secrets Here, who is based in Los Alamitos, came to Ruidoso after finishing a late-running third in the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million. His connections thought his strong finish in the 350-yard Ed Burke indicated he would excel at the All American distance of 440 yards. In his Ruidoso debut, No Secrets Here set the fastest qualifying time, 21.044 seconds, from 17 All American Futurity trials.

Gun Battle continued an excellent weekend for New Mexico-breds at Ruidoso Downs. Another New Mexico-bred, Arealstraitheart, won the Grade 1, $406,000 All American Derby on Sunday afternoon. Arealstraitheart was second in the 2005 All American Futurity.

Following third-place finisher Don't Let Down under the wire were Mightys First Call, Remember Me Rose, My First Passion, Genuine Botticelli, Separate Bet, First Freeze, and Okey Dokey Fantasy, who suffered his first loss in nine career starts.

The third choice in the wagering, No Secrets Here returned $10.60, $5.80, and $4. Gun Battle paid $4.20 and $3.40, and Dont Let Down returned $4 to show. The $2 exacta paid $35.20, and the $1 trifecta paid $98.10.

Handle on the All American Futurity was a record $708,690.
