No people or horses injured in Oaklawn barn fire
There were no injuries in a barn fire Tuesday night at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., according to a statement released by the track. The fire destroyed the north end of the Wild Again barn, and horses and staff from the area were safely relocated to other barns. The fire started shortly before 7 p.m., and as of Wednesday morning the cause of the fire is unknown.
Oaklawn released the following statement:
“The Hot Springs Fire Department along with Oaklawn’s security and staff worked quickly to extinguish the fire within minutes. The north end of the Wild Again barn was destroyed by the fire. All horses and humans have been relocated to nearby barns for the remainder of the season, which ends Saturday, May 6.
"A huge thank you to the Hot Springs Fire Department, Hot Springs Police Department, Garland County Sheriff's Department, the horsemen, and the Oaklawn team members for their quick response and diligence in ensuring all horses were safe and sound and no other barns were affected.”
Racing resumes as scheduled on Friday.
