HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The speedy No Nay Mets, a three-time stakes winner during his 2-year-old season, will launch his 3-year-old campaign, weather permitting, Saturday at Gulfstream Park when he faces seven rivals in the $100,000 Texas Glitter Stakes. The Texas Glitter is carded at five furlongs on turf, but the weather forecast for both Friday and Saturday was a gloomy one, calling for more than an 80 percent chance of rain over the local area on both days. If the Texas Glitter comes off the grass, it would be decided at five furlongs over the synthetic Tapeta track. No Nay Mets won his career debut in sensational fashion here nearly a year ago, capturing the five-furlong Royal Palm Stakes by 3 1/2 lengths in gate-to-wire fashion and earning himself a berth in the Grade 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. After finishing ninth in the Norfolk, No Nay Mets returned to the United States to register one-sided victories of 5 1/2 and 3 1/2 lengths, respectively, in the Tyro at Monmouth Park and Rosie’s Stakes at Colonial Downs before closing his campaign finishing fourth as the 2-1 favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. No Nay Mets is trained by George Weaver for the partnership of Houston Astros star Alex Bregman and Edge Racing. :: Access morning workout reports straight from the tracks and get an edge with DRF Clocker Reports “He’s doing great,” Weaver said when asked how No Nay Mets is coming into the Texas Glitter. “He had several works on the farm in Ocala before coming back to us and worked three more times at Palm Beach Downs. One thing about him, he’s an easy horse to train. He’s got such a great mind. He had a great year as a 2-year-old, although it was a little disappointing finishing fourth in the Breeders’ Cup. We wanted to be on the lead that day but they were flying, and eventually in these types of races you’re going to run into horses that have more speed than you. And maybe he just wasn’t good enough on the day.” As for the weather, Weaver said he’d likely skip the race should the Texas Glitter be switched to the Tapeta. “We are planning on possibly running him back in two weeks at Keeneland” – in the Grade 2 Shakertown – “so it doesn’t seem to make any sense experimenting with a new surface if the race came off the grass, although it will probably come down to a game-time decision.” If he runs, No Nay Mets is likely to find himself in a battle for the lead with the undefeated Frac Dancer and/or Bonus Move, who has led at the first two calls of all three previous starts and at every call en route to a very impressive 6 1/4-length maiden victory making his turf debut just three weeks earlier. Bonus Move earned a 91 Beyer Speed Figure for his maiden win, the highest of any member of the Texas Glitter lineup. :: Bet with the Best! Frac Dancer captured his only two previous starts as a 2-year-old at Woodbine, including the restricted Clarendon Stakes. Reef Runner won his maiden over the Tapeta course in December and then showed his versatility when upsetting Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf runner-up and odds-on Valiant Force with a come-from-behind three-quarter-length decision in an allowance for which he received a 90 Beyer when trying grass for the first time Feb. 7. General Ledger, who defeated Reef Runner in a restricted allowance race over the synthetic strip in their 3-year-old debuts, Runnin’ Rocket, A.G. Diamond, and Lightning Clouds complete the lineup. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
