HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - No Nay Mets, owned by Houston Astro star Alex Bregman, hit one out of the park in his career debut in running off to an easy 3 1/2-length victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Royal Palm Juvenile at Gulfstream Park. No Nay Mets earned with the win an automatic berth into one of the six juvenile races to be run at this year’s Royal Ascot meet, plus a $25,000 travel stipend to ship to England. The New York baseball theme of the Royal Palm continued when Mattingly, named after former Yankees standout Don Mattingly, finished second, three parts of a length in front of Zaino. The Wesley Ward-trained Holding the Line was a major disappointment, finishing a tiring seventh as the 4-5 favorite in his career debut. No Nay Mets, who RNA’d for $335,000 at the OBS Spring Sale, was sent to trainer George Weaver via Ciaran Dunne, consigner for Wavertree Stables, for Bregman shortly after the sale. Weaver had just enough time to get two works under No Nay Mets’ belt, including three furlongs in a lively 36.60 seconds from the gate here just eight days ago, before the race. :: Take your handicapping to the next level and play with FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic.  “Kieren and I have a good relationship and I guess because I was down here, he gave me a call after this horse RNA’d at the sale and asked if I would get him ready for this race,” Weaver explained. “And of course I said ‘yes, I can do it.’ ” And ready he was. With jockey Luca Panici aboard, No Nay Mets broke alertly and quickly stuck his head in front while stalked by Mattingly from the outset, the pair readily separating themselves from the others entering the far turn. No Nay Mets ultimately shook off his early pursuer leaving the furlong grounds, gradually increasing his advantage while kept under steady urging to the end. Mattingly proved no match for the winner, but held off Zaino to be second-best while also making his career bow in the Royal Palm. The latter finished best of all down the center of the course to be third, while never menacing the winner. Weaver’s Blast Furnace checked in fourth after racing forwardly throughout. Holding the Line raced within easy striking distance during the early going, but came up empty on settling for the drive. No Nay Mets, regally bred for the turf by No Nay Never out of the War Front mare Etoile, a Group 3 winner in her debut in Ireland, completed five furlongs over a firm course in 57.50 and paid $23.60 to win.  “He worked 20 and 2 and galloped out in 36 at the 2-year-old sale in April,” Weaver said. “He was fit when he came to me. I just needed to get a gate work into him. It was kind of a crunched schedule to get him here.  Just a matter of letting him spin his legs a couple of times and getting a work out of the gate.”  As for making his first start on grass without ever working on grass, Weaver said, “He is a No Nay Never. It made sense he would handle the turf.” Weaver said the plan now is to head to England for No Nay Mets’ next start. “Alex said he wants to go to Ascot, so as of now, we’re going,” said Weaver, who plans to ship his South Florida-based stable to New York early next week. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
