ALTOONA, Iowa – Sunday’s $60,000 Iowa Stallion Futurity, restricted to nominated 2-year-olds by eligible stallions, overfilled and features the winners of seven juvenile races here this season. The 5 1/2-furlong Futurity is headed by No Holds Barred and Cornfed, who romped in their debuts and registered Beyer Speed Figures of 60. No Holds Barred, bred and owned by trainer Lynn Chleborad, easily handled eight foes, including recent maiden winner Yah Yah Sir, in his initial try June 6. In that 4 1/2-furlong dash, the Hold Me Back gelding seized command from a wide berth and drew off for a five-length tally. Cornfed, also racing over the 4 1/2-furlong distance May 9, overcame a sluggish start to easily defeat six rivals by 5 3/4 lengths. Trained by Ray Ashford, Cornfed, a Pass Rush gelding, is bred and owned by Jeff Hartz’s Runaway Racing. KEY CONTENDERS No Holds Barred (Beyer: 60) ◗ He had a bullet breeze in 47.19 seconds June 21 under Alex Birzer, who has won 22 percent of his races here for the Chleborad barn in 2014-15. Another Bond Girl (Beyer: 49) ◗ This Lone Star Park shipper, one of five fillies in the field of 12, rallied in the mud for a three-quarter-length win May 22. Cornfed (Beyer: 60) ◗ He’s had consecutive five-furlong breezes, including a bullet move in 1:01 here Tuesday. ◗ He will be ridden by the meet’s leading rider, Ramon Vazquez, who was 51 for 217 at the meet through Thursday but 1 for 13 for Ashford in 2014-15.
