No Holds Barred dominates Cyclones Handicap

No Holds Barred led early, turned back a bid from 3-2 favorite Han Sense, and went on to a dominant victory Saturday at Prairie Meadows in the $65,000 Cylcones Handicap.
No Holds Barred, a romping sprint allowance winner of his most recent start, had no trouble staying two turns Saturday, winning the 1 1/16-mile race for older Iowa-breds by 3 1/2 lengths. One Fine Dream never threatened the winner, but was clearly second-best over Net Gain. Han Sense, who briefly led at the quarter-pole, flattened out and finished fourth.
No Holds Barred was timed in 1:44.42 over a fast track and paid $11.80 to win, receiving an 88 Beyer Speed Figure. He was ridden by Alex Birzer and carried 119 pounds, three fewer than starting highweight Han Sense.
Lynn Chleborad owns and trains the 5-year-old gelding, who is by Hold Me Back and out of the Cape Canaveral mare, Beginnings End. No Holds Barred won for the seventh time in 25 starts and is approaching $300,000 in career earnings.
Theperfectvow ends Tokyo’s reign in Hawkeyes
Mywomanfromtokyo had won all five of her two-turn Iowa-bred stakes at Prairie Meadows and was trying to win the $65,000 Hawkeyes Stakes for the third year in a row, but she was thwarted Friday night by Theperfectvow.
Theperfectvow took a three-length lead to the stretch call in the Hawkeyes but held on by only a neck over a determined Mywomanfromtokyo, who lost ground on the far turn but still was closing hard on perfect-trip Theperfectvow. My Sister Madi finished another 1 3/4-lengths back in third.
Theperfectvow ran 1 1/16-miles on a fast track in 1:44.44 and paid $9.80 to win. She carried 120 pounds - one fewer than Mywomanfromtoky - including jockey Floyd Wethey Jr.
Four-year-old Theperfectvow has put together her own impressive Prairie Meadows record, and the Hawkeyes ran her local mark to 6-0-1 from nine starts. Theperfectvow was a 2-year-old Iowa-bred stakes winner two summers ago and last season relished her first Iowa-bred start around two turns with a comfortable win in the rich Iowa Breeders’ Oaks.
Robertino Diorodo trains Theperfectvow for the River Ridge Ranch. The daughter of Majesticperfection and Prenuptial Vow, by Broken Vow, now is a six-time winner from 10 starts – and for now, is the new queen of Iowa-bred female route horses.
