No Hayne No Gayne outbattles Might Be in Jack Betta Be Rite

No Hayne No Gayne and Might Be were narrowly separated in the wagering for the $50,000 Jack Betta Be Rite Stakes on Monday at Finger Lakes, and the two were narrowly separated at the finish line, with No Hayne No Gayne up to prevail by a head in the 1 1/16-mile race for New York-bred fillies and mares.
No Hayne No Gayne ($5.80), who is co-owned by trainer Steve Asmussen in a partnership that includes assistant Toby Sheets, breeder ZBS Thoroughbreds, Paradise Farms Corp., and Louie Roussel III, was sent away at 1.90-to-1, with Might Be narrowly favored at 1.85-to-1.
Might Be, under John Davila Jr., set a moderate early pace while under pressure in the Jack Betta Be Rite, taking the field through a quarter in 24.03 seconds and a half in 48.05 seconds. Meanwhile, No Hayne No Gayne bided her time in fourth in the field of five under Jaime Rodriguez.

Might Be led New Girl in Town by a head approaching the quarter pole as No Hayne No Gayne drew up alongside to take aim, just a half-length behind in third. The latter was up at the wire after a long drive, stopping the clock in 1:47.34.
After the top two, it was 4 1/4 lengths back to New Girl in Town in third.
This was the first career stakes victory for No Hayne No Gayne, whose best finishes in five prior stakes tries were a second in the Bay Ridge Stakes in December 2018 and a third in the Biogio's Rose Stakes in February 2018, both at Aqueduct. The 5-year-old mare has now won 5 times from 25 starts for earnings of $291,721.
* Earlier on the card, favored Grady ($3.60) was a 4 1/2-length winner of the co-featured $40,000 Mass Bred Handicap, a conditioned race for Massachusetts-bred runners. The gelding was ridden by Andy Hernandez Sanchez for trainer Dylan Clarke, who also saddled runner up The Doc Is In.
