No Fault of Mine has surgery to remove bone chip

Marcus Hersh|Jan 16, 2015

NEW ORLEANS – No Fault of Mine, who served notice that she might be a Kentucky Oaks candidate with a good second-place finish in the Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes on Nov. 29 at Churchill Downs, is off the Oaks trail with what trainer Chris Block described as “a little injury.”

No Fault of Mile came out of a recent training session in Ocala, Fla., with a small chip in her knee.

“It was a no-brainer to go ahead and take it out,” Block said Thursday when reached by phone in Florida. “She had the surgery yesterday.”

No Fault of Mine, a daughter of Blame bred and owned by Lothenbach Stables, was a sharp debut winner Sept. 28 in a seven-furlong Polytrack race at Arlington, and when an allowance race at Churchill failed to fill, Block and owner Bob Lothenbach gave her a shot in the Golden Rod. Eleventh of 12 runners down the backstretch, she finished strongly and was beaten only by West Coast Belle, the undefeated filly who starts as one of the favorites Saturday at Fair Grounds in the Silverbulletday Stakes.

The tentative plan had called for No Fault of Mine also to come to Fair Grounds to prepare for her 3-year-old debut, but now she will be off about 90 days, Block said.

“We’ll re-X-ray after 90 days and take a look from there,” said Block. “She was really going through a growth spurt when this happened. I thought it was going to be tough to get her to a race like the Kentucky Oaks anyway, given where she was.”

No Fault of Mine’s dam, Single Solution, was a Grade 3 winner on turf and is a sister to multiple graded turf stakes winner Vacare.
