Fort Erie has announced that its marquee race, the $400,000 Prince of Wales Stakes, the middle leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, will go Sept. 10 as scheduled. Woodbine traditionally runs the opening Triple Crown race, the $1 million King’s Plate, which was postponed from last Saturday to this Friday due to heavy rainfall that created unsafe track conditions.   “Our schedule this year already had a few extra days built in between the first and second races of the Triple Crown,” said Fort Erie’s general manager, Drew Cady. “So even with the Plate pushed back six days, we still have a full 18 days of rest in between, which provides plenty of downtime between races so that horses from the King’s Plate can run again in the Prince of Wales Stakes.” Post positions for the 89th edition of the Prince of Wales will be drawn Sept. 5 by retired champion jockey Eurico da Silva. The supporting features on the Prince of Wales card are two $100,000 stakes for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds, the Lake Erie and the Rondeau Bay. Post time for the Sept. 10 card is at 1 p.m., with the Prince of Wales scheduled for around 5:30 p.m. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
