Nitrous draws clear late in Bachelor score

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Nitrous overtook Landeskog in the late stages for a 1 3/4-length win over that one in the $150,000 Bachelor on Saturday at Oaklawn Park. It was another 6 3/4 lengths back to Gray Attempt in third.
The Bachelor was a six-furlong race for 3-year-olds.
Nitrous ($12.60) let the speed go as Landeskog broke well from his rail post and proceeded to set fractions of 21.31 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.26 seconds for the half-mile. Nitrous took up the chase in earnest in the stretch, closing in on the leader quickly in the final sixteenth of a mile to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:09.70.
Ricardo Santana Jr. was aboard for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Nitrous is a son of Tapit who races for his breeder, Winchell Thoroughbreds, and Stonestreet Stables. He earned $90,000 for the win, which was his third from eight starts, and improved his career bankroll to $263,296.
Nitrous was winning the second stakes of his career behind the $106,000 Riley Allison Derby in January at Sunland Park. Last year, he was third in the Grade 1 Hopeful at Saratoga.
