Nine stakes planned for 2023 Preakness card

Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore will run nine stakes races on May 20, the day of the Preakness Stakes, the track announced Tuesday, and hold another six stakes, including the Black-Eyed Susan, on the day prior.
The 15 stakes will have total purses of $3.5 million, including $1.5 million for the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes, the middle leg of the Triple Crown. On the same day of the Preakness, Pimlico will hold eight other stakes, four of them Grade 3 races – the $200,000 Dinner Party, the $200,000 Chick Lang, the $100,000 Gallorette, and the $100,000 Maryland Sprint Stakes.
On May 19, the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, for 3-year-old fillies, will be supported by three Grade 3 stakes – the $250,000 Pimlico Special for older horses, the $150,000 Miss Preakness, and the $100,000 Allaire duPont. Two other stakes will be held that day, both with $100,000 purses.
This year’s Pimlico meet will run from May 11 to June 4, and all 15 stakes races at the meet will be held over the May 19-20 Preakness weekend.
