Nickname draws rail for Martha Washington

Nikki Sherman Nickname will start from post 1 in the $100,000 Martha Washington on Saturday at Oaklawn.

Nickname, the winner of the Grade 1 Frizette, drew the rail for the $100,000 Martha Washington on Saturday at Oaklawn. She is part of an eight-horse field that also includes the undefeated multiple stakes winner My Master Plan.

Nickname, who will be making her first start since a fourth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Oct. 31 at Keeneland, breezed a half-mile in 50.20 seconds on Tuesday at Oaklawn.

“We just gave her an easy half-mile over the racetrack,” said Steve Asmussen, who trains Nickname for L N J Foxwoods. “She put in very good work at New Orleans. Just wanted to give her a little feel of the track.”

Nickname’s drills at Fair Grounds include a five-furlong move in 1:00.80 on Jan. 20 and six furlongs in 1:12.80 on Jan. 26.

The field for the Martha Washington with riders: Nickname, Corey Nakatani; My Master Plan, Jareth Loveberry; Ready to Confess, Luis Quinonez; Durango, Alex Canchari; Dorodansa, Chris Landeros; Marquee Miss, Channing Hill; Lovable Lyss, Alex Cintron; and Red Fern Doll, Ramon Vazquez.
