Nice Lady living up to her name

Ron Gierkink|Jul 06, 2010

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Nice Lady has proven to be well worth the $9,500 for which she was claimed in April, and she should be favored in Wednesday's featured sixth race, an Ontario-sired allowance route for females who have not won three races.

Nice Lady went winless in 16 starts last year during her 3-year-old campaign. In her season opener in a $10,000 sprint, she wound up third while being claimed by Ace Racing Stable and trainer Scott Fairlie.

Nice Lady was boosted up to a seven-furlong allowance for nonwinners of two May 12, which she won from off the pace in a good clocking. Just 12 days later, she rallied for second in a nonwinners-of-three Ontario-sired allowance traveling 1 1/16 miles, earning a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 68

Three weeks ago, Nice Lady finished a wide second in another Ontario-sired allowance, after surrendering a slim lead at the eighth pole under Patrick Husbands, who has the mount on Wednesday.

Golden Girl Sue could be effective as the lone speed in the 1 1/16-mile headliner. She led all the way in her season opener in a nonwinners-of-two allowance going long, but was surprisingly empty in the lane after setting soft fractions in her latest at this class.

Golden Girl Sue was claimed for $32,000 last October by trainer Tino Attard, who sent her out to finish third against the boys in a slow renewal of the restricted Kingarvie Stakes in November.

Lunar Linda was stakes-placed twice last year during her lucrative 3-year-old campaign, which included a narrow loss on turf in the La Prevoyante Stakes.

Lunar Linda was a beaten favorite in each of her last two outings, ending up third and fourth. She ran second in her season opener behind Moonlit Beauty, who subsequently captured the Zadracarta Stakes.

Divorsky went on a tear last fall, when she won her maiden and an allowance over nine furlongs. She was unplaced in both of her starts at this stand.

Interregnum was taken far off a slow pace when she went long for the first time this year June 20, and then ran into traffic on the far turn en route to an eighth-place finish.

Precious as Jade broke slowly before closing wide to end up third behind Nice Lady in her best effort of the meet June 16.
