NHC qualifier win keyed by 66-1 shot

Mary Rampellini|Oct 25, 2006

When a 66-1 shot came in for horseplayer Keith Davis, it lifted him to a victory over 145 other contestants in the Louisiana Downs qualifier for the Daily Racing Form/National Thoroughbred Racing Association National Handicapping Championship. The finale will be held in Las Vegas in January.

Davis, a New Orleans resident, earned a spot in the Championship after pegging 66-1 longshot Batboy in a maiden race at Belmont Park on Oct. 14. He selected Batboy in part because of the success Batboy's sire, Prime Timber, has had on turf with some of his offspring. Davis finished with a winning bankroll of $195.40 and earned $10,000 for his victory in the Louisiana Downs contest.
