Next for Tax: Charles Town or Oaklawn

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Tax, the 4-year-old Arch gelding best known for winning the Grade 2 Jim Dandy last July at Saratoga, could make his next start in the Charles Town Classic or the Oaklawn Handicap “depending on how the travel situation is by then,” trainer Danny Gargan said. Both are $1 million races to be run April 18.
Tax has had three breezes – the latest an easy half-mile in 50.60 seconds on Wednesday at Gargan’s winter base at the Palm Meadows training center – since finishing ninth as the 4-1 third choice in the Jan. 25 Pegasus World Cup.
“He’s come back around,” Gargan said. “We’d thought about maybe sending him to Dubai, but with all the travel restrictions and everything else, that’s not an option any more. We’re looking forward to having a big year with him, so we’re not in any hurry right now.”
